Catching bait for ice fishing season

Last year I didn't catch any minnows, and it was a pain in the butt to find bait out on the bald assed prairies.
It's a lot simpler (and cheaper) to have some minnows already in my freezer.

Pulled the trap twice, and got 3 sandwich bags full.

    Nice.

We are trying to keep a worm colony growing over the winter for our fishing adventures.

We can't do that in BC. Legally. So many fly fisherman in BC on the Fisheries board of directors it will be illegal to ice fish soon. 1/2 the lakes are no ice fishing.
Then you add the barbless hook and what's the point of going out. Lose every fish on the fight to the hole.
It will be a rich man only sport in BC soon.

A friend of mine was keeping a few of them going in his basement in styrofoam coolers. He was just using them to make super high test starter soil for tomato plants. He just threw all his kitchen scraps in there and let them turn it all into top grade top soil. He didn't even dig the scraps into the soil...just threw stuff in there (plant based stuff of course) and they did their thing. I was surprised that it didn't stink up the place, but I couldn't even tell the coolers were in there before he showed them to me.

My eldest daughter had some friends over, and they wanted to trap some minnows.
I humored them, but didn't expect much, as we only had about 1/2 an hour to let the trap soak.

Got enough that they just barely squeezed (squoze?) into a sandwich bag.
