Today 24" and 28". Need to find my camera and download pics. The feed of fresh lake trout last night was awesome. Bacon grease, butter, lake trout, salt, pepper and potato covered in sour cream. Yum. Steamed cauliflower but that doesn't fit in with the Yum!!

Oh and the left over lake trout was flaked up and put on a sandwich with miracle whip and cheese. Another yum.

Look around is there someone you can introduce to shooting because that’s the only way we will buck the anti gun trend sweeping Canada! "tigrr 2006"

5 days fishing 2 fish. Not exciting. 27" and 24". Yawn. Not worth the gas going there to fish.
Break up is happening to our roads. Think 5 to 7 inch ruts in the mud roads. Gravel was graded off 5 years ago. No new gravel.
I will fix my new boat and chase the rainbows and lake trout in the soft water!!

And this is where it went.

Oh we ate some and not bad but it will be the last lake trout I smoke.
Rainbow and salmon are worthy of smoking but lake trout is way better just fried and ate.

I agree with you, smoked rainbow on a baguette is outstanding. But I had the opportunity to bring some red stripe ( natural original species) of Lakers to a small business at Pass Lake near Thunder Bay Ontario. The owner will smoke your Lakers but only if they are the red stripers, not the greasy white fleshed porkers out of Lake Superior.
I have to admit, these were out of this world. I’m trying to duplicate this on my Big Green Egg, but so far have come up short.
Next, candied Pacific salmon on the smoker.

I was just told that a 10 to 1 or 10 to 2 dry mix is used for lake trout. 10 parts brown sugar to 1 part salt. lay some fillets in the bottom of a pot cover with mix. Lay another layer and cover with mix. Let this marinate for 24 hours, refrigerated. Rinse and let pelicle form and then smoke.
I am going to pick up a big old freezer today for my new smoke house. Metal inside and out.

The sockeye run was tremendous. Should be a good lake trout through the ice year. Think sockeye fry from below the ice down to the bottom at 60 feet. The lake trout are full of them.

I wish I still had pictures of the 175lb skate I caught in the Skeena river mouth. 1 hour getting it up to the boat for a picture. 100lb test line.

The sockeye fry are not in the lake yet. 1 more month till lake trout harvest.
