I noticed we have folks eligible for a banned users thread...a GOC hall of shame...

if we already have one I missed it...

if we don't...git er done! ;D

I'm really hoping this forum doesn't turn into a CGN-lite. I'd like to think as a group we police ourselves better with just a slight prod now and then from a moderator.

So far so good. Let's keep up the good vibe everyone!

We've had a few "issues" lately, and the mod staff are taking some "stronger than we would like to, but have to" action to deal with it. We had a vision when we created this site that it would NOT become CGN, part deux. The rules are there as a guide. Self moderation is still the key to keeping this place a civil, and enjoyable place for all gun owners.

This place is a "social media" site for gun owners. Discussions about firearms are the norm, but by no means does discussion have to be limited to that....thus all of the other sections to the site. Maturity, and civility toward your fellow members is paramount and trumps all else. In the future, straying into trolling territory by posting things that are clearly going to "incite a riot" so to speak, or that are insulting others, will not be tolerated in ANY way. This includes anyone's strong opinions on religion.....if you want to wish someone a "Merry Christmas", that's fine. Slamming someone's religion because you don't believe in their views...no..that brick ain't gonna fly anymore. That being said, a 'hall of shame" isn't really the direction we want to go here on GOC.

We would rather just have those who feel that they just HAVE TO incite controversy take their discussions somewhere else, peacefully, or, if necessary, we will remove them. Everybody is entitled to a little leeway now and again, but when there are 3 different discussions going on in the moderator section about one user.....or if there are 3 discussions going on about each of 3 different users, yea...this crap will NOT continue.

Did I make the list? I need to post up and look under my name to see!
Sir Steve I would rather burn at the gates of hell then risk the bad karma of trying to ban your sheer awesomeness ;)

I never really got the point of a (public) banned members list? IMO it kinda comes off like framing your parking tickets; why would you want to remember? Maybe if members ask specifically after someone, the reason could be trotted out in the interests of transparency?

there wont be a banned user list. the rules are publicly listed. if they are banned, then they broke te rules to many times. public list wont accomplish a thing. Den has pretty much summed up the mods views nicely. if self moderation is an issue, we can and will deal harshly.

I saw the first "banned" handle and it just got me thinking...

I like the penalty box idea, as a gentle reminder to the masses...if there were masses...but whatever

...now I'm forced to read the forums on a regular basis rather than just checking the list... ;D

what's "seal harshly"?

As far as "seal harshly" I could type a long drawn out analogy comparing them to a seal hunt with clubs and such but the truth is it was a long day and I was on my phone. Big fingers, little buttons.

oh!

"deal" harshly

my bad I should have figured that out...

I can relate to fat fingering those piddly phone buttons...when I bought mine I asked the sales chick if they get any bigger, she asked why? I gave her 2 thumbs up...she suggested a tablet...smart ass ;D

We have no Plans to have a list of banned members.
Why? Typically when a member is banned for a short term or long term people know and know the reasons why.
We don't need to glorify their departure, their choices, lead to their leaving.

And I applaud GOC for this stance! A time out does help some people reflect on some of the asinine statements they might make about people

makes sense...no purpose for it without the whole revolving door routine going on...and with a little luck and common sense that should never happen here.

Ok bottom line the rules are the rules break them too many times get a time out. We said there was not going to be a name them thread. Locked.
