The off topic stuff is hilarious and unlike other sites, positive, but yes...original topic. And no BSD, that was NOT permission to post the damn monkey picture bahahhaa

From what I'm gathering from this thread, the political stuff is offputting. As well, there was a complaint a while back about reading all the newbies' "Hi" threads. As jwire has said, there's not really a way to remove these from the 'What's New' function, as they are new threads/posts. I know that on other larger sites I don't even bother hitting the "What's New" button, as I will end up having to slog through mountains of stuff I have no interest in. We can certainly keep our eyes open for any updates that allow for individual customization (though at this time not available) - If you as our members happen to come across another forum that has this option, PLEASE let us know so we can see if we can apply it to our site

I can suggest better moderation on our behalf, to keep politics out of the non-politic threads (eg things that aren't posted in the action/news sections), and would ask help in this from our members with reminders to the posters to move that content over to the correct sections. We can confine it to certain areas, like harbl's Brony thread thread for example, as muzzling our members isn't what we are looking for here at GOC.

We appear to have no end to the political/news content on this site, so please post up more "other" content. I'm interested in hearing about your tool search and the finding of a great double edge razor with cheap feather blades...if nothing else, it's great stocking stuffer ideas for the men things in my family.

I wonder if it's because I've been deliberate since the fire about posting more sarcastic, 2-3 paragraph posts (or pictures of stuff I've krylon'd) and fewer 2000 word epic posts full of charts with trendlines, moving averages, Strauss and Howe generational theory or Bible verses - I guess more reflective of the mood I'm in as of late.

I've never used "Whats New" on any forum. I'm a topical browser - I like the forum structure since it's sometimes hard to glean the topic of a thread using it.

I like the peeps and mood around this forum and being life banned from CGN - I don't envision I'm going to any new gun forum anytime soon (unless I get banned for trolling every thread with pictures of Derpy).

I've only been here a short time and really have not "met" any of you other than a couple that answered the Hi, I'm a new guy post. I read posts of topics that may interest me and pass over the others, no big deal. I don't go to a lot of these forums so maybe it's not a big deal to me for that reason. Don't mind the politics either as long as it's where you expect it to be.
Aside from that Candy - by steadfastly refusing to post the monkey picture (and constantly bringing it up) it will take on legendary proportions. I had never heard of it till you mentioned it, now it's been mentioned in several posts in the last couple days. Hmm?! And, as another aside that shall make Strewth drool profusely - I was at Cabela's last week and they had ...... at the fudge bar ...... are you ready?....... Bacon fudge! mmmmm bacon

I might add +1 for "Forum" vs "What's New" is something I called "US Army Private" vs "Canadian Army Private" from a few months ago... nudge nudge :P

Don't like news and politics? Canadian Army Private the main topical section and it's almost as if it doesn't exist!

Oh also - please not more rules.

I think the most succinct summary of rules for any community is simply summarized as this:

                Love and tolerate everyone /)

                        Tee hee... I'm tickled pink!

Seriously though - I'm pretty bummed out lately. Contract, home rebuild, side business, baby - and a snow storm to boot. My contract in particular is bumming me out - but maybe a few months from now I'll go into detail.

This forum is how I remembered Calgary back when I was a kid and it was less like Mos Eisley space port. Don't get me wrong, I love my city - it just that today it feels more like an impersonal metropolis and less like a small, friendly city.

I guess CGN is more the metropolis, while GOC is Calgary from the 1980's.
