In one of my editors I've created a macro to replace smart double quotes and smart single quotes with their simple equivalents that GoC currently requires to avoid them being board 'translated' to the more difficult to read "?"s.
I don't guarantee to use it all the time, and the macro doesn't currently handle any other special characters like "--", but it's easier than doing it manually so when posting articles I'll probably use it frequently.
Curly/Smart Quotes and Curly/Smart Apostrophes
Use ALT+0145 and ALT+0146 for the left and right single quotation marks or apostrophes, respectively.
Use ALT+0147 and ALT+0148 for the left and right double quotation marks, respectively.
