Herc, I am not sure if this thread is getting us back to where we think we should be or not. But it sure has been fun in the meantime. I have noticed an increase in directly gun related items here. I even did one on the (Superbrad cover your ears) upgrade for the Marlin lever rifle. But I admit, I posted some news stuff, too. But I sure learned a lot from Strewth's Star Wars life lessons, I can now ignore people over the internet, and had a lot of laughs reading this thread. We are incorrigible I guess but no harm done to anyone. Well except maybe some raccoons and skunks.

Lol.... I have no issues with the 30-30 or the levers in general.... to each their own... That damn thread still haunts me over at the other place... God forbid anyone has a contrary opinion on the 30-30 lever platform.... kind of speaks to herc's point though... I doubt if I had expressed that opinion here I would have gotten the same reaction.... kind of makes me wish there was more gun related material going on here....

I think it's got a bit to do with the summer months, which are not big for gun forums? We're all outside doing stuff. Except people in lower Alberta. They're getting snowed in, and I'm sure would post more except their power's out.

Damn IGGY isn't working..... grrr :)

But season is coming!.... it's a perfect time for an epic calibre argument.... maybe I need to start an SKS for bear thread or even (gasp) a why 30-30 sucks thread..... lol
 
^Since the SKS and 30-30 levers basically have the same throw weight and reliability, 30-30 for bear defense would combine that nicely...lol...

Who knows Mr. Canuck but it developed into an honest and well meaning and civil exchange. Yesterday was a good day as we seemed to flood the place with gun stuff and related material. We do have a few very strange people here but they are mostly harmless or so I think. Bacon, middle aged men in Speedos and cartoons are much easier to tolerate than some of the stuff that goes on elsewhere. At least, people seem to care about "the joint" as it was and is easy just to "walk out" with no gain to anyone.

And hunting stuff, too. I was wondering if you might considering updating your sticky on hunting turkeys. Apparently there are more and more of these birds showing up in the Okanagan which is not that far from me. You covered the decoys, best shotguns to use and and callers. The game cam pics are pretty impressive. Do they always strut and pose in front of the cameras like that?
A section on habitat would be helpful to us noobs. Also, I will have to check, I don't know if you are allowed feeders in BC. But the best places to hunt them in terms of favored habitat would be helpful.
I was also wondering about the chances of you doing a video or audio even of the sounds you can make with your callers. I guess it would work perfectly as the mere thought o fcycling the action apparently causes everything within 100 yards to die... :)

Well... fall season is coming... I suppose I could do some calls ... fall is perfect time for lost hen and kee-kee run... and once the weeds die down I can get some pics of what to look for, leaf scratchings etc....
 
Just a new guys two cents. I see where everyone is coming from in regards to needing a site purely for the discussions of what is happening in the gun world and actually about shooting. On the other side I am a relative newbie to learning about the politics surrounding gun ownership and our rights. This site has been helpful in catching me up and I hope that in the event changes are made that a political forum is still left available for those of us who were late starts in life.

Thanks to those who run this site and for some of the contributors who seem so well informed.
 
This site is friendly and well run.... if I can speak generally.... I agree with hercster.... we need to remember that we love guns...

Its one thing to take measures against antis and create awareness.... its another to do it to the point that you completely neglect the very hobby you fight for..... I love guns... I love collecting and using them and I love discussing them with fellow enthusiasts.... I get tiered of duscussing antis and curier and weaping over what was lost...

Lets enjoy and share what we have and work for more. ..

Share your clean fun... share your experiences and share your knowledge...
 
Yes. love guns, love shooting, love the fact we seem to be gaining ground. After 20+ years of abuse, I'm happy with steps in the right direction. I'd be happier with all wrongs righted in one fell swoop but I understand how things work.

Now if my local CanTire would just get restocked in 250-round boxes of 12g for $70 I'd spend my evenings at the range rather than on the webz

Actually go a few folks at work HOOKED recently and that will translate into immediate gun purchases, memberships, and more word-of-mouth and practical hands-on newbies by it spreading through their friend networks.

We even got a visiting instructor for a course at work out to the skeet club and he's gone back home to Burlington to look into things at his end. I fear he won't find $50/year membership and free shooting clinics in hell, er I mean Ontario

Awesome!... so share pics and stories of using firearms for wholesome uses. My oldest is hooked too.... just now to the point where he can shoot solo.... lets all share goid stories and not focus on the bad all the time....
 
I really like a few things I've just read. I've said it many times and I'll repeat that we a good people with an excellent product that needs to be marketed at every opportunity. I've just exchanged PM's with a newer member. He is excited and more or less at his beginning with respect to the sports and hobbies we enjoy. When one of these people show up at the GOC, we need to give them every reason to stay and become as "infected with the joys" as we are.

New people have a habit of spending money and the orders they place with our sponsors support us all. I like the momentum we have managed to create in the last year. I have the distinct impression that we have more of the "civilians" seeing our point of view. Not long ago, Mr. Blaney's announcements would generated outrage from the ill informed. Well there are fewer ill informed people out there now and we are largely responsible for that. While recognizing various realities, we need to put on an upbeat face for anyone that will listen and there are more of them every day. Congrats for pushing the product Mr. Gaidheal. Those newbies are our best resources and that is more true now than in the past as people communicate more and more often using the media that have become so available and widespread.

I may be stretching it a bit but look at the growth of the food truck industry all over North America . These entrepreneurs can have 100's of people lining up for lunch before they arrive on their site. Our young people will do similarly when a few of their buddies go to the range, enjoy our hospitality and tell their friends before they leave the parking lot. Selling our product has become part of me in the last five years. I'm always selling because I believe wholeheartedly in value of our lifestyles. Go team!!
 
No pics as I wasn't there but co-workers responded to the local skeet club hosting "shooter clinics" where they got corporate sponsorship of the ammo, had club members volunteer their time and charged $5 for the daily insurance. The attendees got dedicated, hands-on, passionate and tailored-to-newbies training and advice. Okay I was there for the session the week before but I took no pics... gah! I might be able to find some as PEI is a small place and I know some of the ladies who showed up!

Some of the biggest surprises? a) short notice (less than 1 day) for the free clinic I went to. b) of the 20-ish people who showed up, 2 of us were men. c) MAYBE 5 of us had shot a gun before. d) almost all of the women present were discussing the fact that Moncton (2 hours away) were discussing the fact that BOTH Cabelas and Bass Pro will open shop there in 2015

We are on the upswing. Not only are women getting into the shooting sports, they are looking for outdoors SHOPPING stores. Don't want to sound sexist, but the truth is MEN live there. if you want to expand what we do, get the WOMEN involved. Those folks SHOP. we buy. LOL The men who will shoot by default already do. you want NEW men in the sport? get WOMEN involved and other men will follow them. Almost like a scent trail.

I'm new to the site but not shooting and it seems that I haven't quite kept up with the politics so it is good to have a place to catch up
 
Well the politics have been tumultuous of late; what with re-classifications, and now more forward progress in the CSFLA, it's bound to get heated. Especially as the CSFLA has room to push a bit. When the CPC dissolved the LGR, it was (supposed to be, sigh) a big, one shot deal. Wipe out a registry, keep an election promise, pretty bow on top.
On this latest proposal we have some maneuvering space, so opinions are flaring a touch. Can't wait to see what happens when the Bill is actually tabled:).

Everybody is strange in their own way. To me it seems that most here aren't ... ah... don't take themselves too seriously. Everybody has an opinion, what works for you might not work for me but I may have learned a different angle that I hadn't thought of. Unfortunately as membership grows more of the thumpers (They'll thump on the table or thump on their chest to loudly prove a point) will show up. Can't help it - get a large enough group and, like my dad always said, there's one in every jock strap.
 
The information that has been provided and the warm reception has been very encouraging. It is great to have this place.

It sure does feel more like home. I found my slippers just inside the door and the muck rakings have been left outside where they belong. I look forward to Candy's "bee kee knee" spread and even Foxer riding across my screen on that white horse in his Speedo. Variety is the spice of life but the menu here features guns and anything that goes with them and that's why I continue to come and stir the pot once in a while.:tounge:

Actually I think Foxer is a bit miffed cuz Candy said she likes Strewth better. I dunno, maybe its the scent of bacon behind his ears?
