It has been noticed by me that as the GOC 'family' expands it brings certain, shall we say, dysfunctions. I would like to remind all who visit/frequent/just drop by to please remember this is a polite family forum. There is the "other'' forum where rudeness is tolerated and may be encouraged and if that is someones style please keep it over there. Thank you for any and all consideration for my request.

^^What Awndray said!^^^ Good timing for a good reminder.

With more people come more opinions and more chances for conflict. Just look at CGN. It feels like a big city, where GOC still has kind of a small-town feel to it. The trick is keeping the friendly feeling while growing membership.

The fact is that while we are growing rather quickly, and with that comes various opinions and disagreements, we mods will continue to try and keep the same feel. If we have to infract we will in order to keep the same feel to the site, which lets face it is why we are here in the first place.

I like the small town feel. One of th reasons i hardly ever go to CGN any more. Way to much childish infighting. Almost as bad as youtube.

I came here and noticed the "different feel" immediately. I'm generally more comfortable even to a point of taking an ever- so- slightly- left position on occasion. The last few months have been a storm of events of a political nature and so more discussion has taken that direction. It doesn't take much to get a feeding frenzy going when the hot buttons are pushed by events in the news. We aren't all of the same stripes here but what we do share is a love for our sports and hobbies. I'd like it if every story wasn't immediately politicised as is sometimes the case. Today's big violence story resulted in some of the same cynical rhetoric relating to politics and political people. I find that regrettable.

Agreed, but you can only come home, walk in the door and kick the dog so many times before the dog learns you walking in the door signals a kick is coming.
Is that a bell I hear? I'm hungry...

When the site was first brought online, we all agreed that we wouldn't let it turn into CGN-part 2. Everybody who came here either did so because somebody from here let them know about it and basically invited them, or, they found it on their own and hung around because they were sick of all the drama that came with CGN. We are doing our best to keep the friendly atmosphere. There was a thread here the other night that I locked that had around 80 posts. I just didn't have the time or the energy to read through every every one of them. Sorry...I have a very busy life..especially right now. :) Suffice to say, now that we've had time to review it, a few people are on the radar.

Our HIGHEST rule here is to be friendly toward each other, and show respect for fellow members at all times...no exceptions. Joking around is one thing. Insults, name calling, and making inflammatory comments that are obviously being make just to solicit negative responses....yea...that won't fly very long around here anymore. We already went through a bit of a rough spell where all the mods were torn over a few individuals. They were walking the razors edge of breaking the rules, but never officially crossed the line. We had a TON of complaints, but by following the rules we all laid out, right to the letter, they weren't officially breaking any of them. After that we decided that we weren't going to let that happen again. Just because someone isn't breaking a specific rule or rules, doesn't necessarily mean they aren't getting a lot of people up in arms. If someone does start to get the troops riled up, we'll let them know that we've had some complaints and to tone it down. If that doesn't work, we aren't going to just let it keep going on....the ban hammer may come out without warning or explanation if all the mods agree it's time to put a stop to them. If that means we don't have as many members, so be it. I think I speak for all when I say that I'd rather see our membership grow in a friendly snails pace than watch the place quickly fill up with people who thrive on conflict and putting others down.

With the increase in traffic, we just can't read every post, so if you guys see something someone has posted that is out of line, please, go ahead and click the report post button at the bottom left corner of the post to bring it to our attention. It really helps us out if everyone keeps and eye on things and really saves us a lot of work if a spammer shows up and starts posting in multiple threads. We can axe them, and clean it up a lot faster if they're stopped quickly. Thanks to all of you who have already been doing this......and don't worry....nobody will ever know who reported a post except the moderators and admin.

All that being said, for the most part, the place has been a pleasure to over see. You guys should be proud of the community we've all helped to create. I've personally made a lot of friends here who have become real world friends, and I hope to make a lot more in the future. In short...you guys are great !!!!

Cheers !!!!
BSD.....

I like coming here and enjoying it.
I don't enjoy coming here and getting wound up.
