Fix the damned punctuation

Geez i realize since the sale there basically no owner support for the site any more other than to slather sfrc banners friggin everywhere, but could someone maybe fix the damn punctuation so when a person uses quotation marks, it doesnt post question marks?

Also, where did all the maple leafs go for the vets, that disappeared right after the sale as well.
 
If I have no idea of what I am talking about than please ignore this post. What is this site worth and would it be feasible for members interested as a group to buy it and restore it to its former glory.

Honestly, the punctuation doesn't bother me much, I'm just glad we can post pictures again.
It does look ridiculous though, and makes goc look like president's choice brand cgn.

I recently read that you pay for a website based on possible reasonable income where you max your income as much as possible without losing views, then multiply the net income by 24 - 36 times.

So, if the local Canadian gun shop sponsors of (using this site for example) GOC bring the site $500 a month which just covers internet traffic and web server rental costs, that's not what the site is worth: that's too low. If, let's say, GOC was opened to every scam garbage banner possible and could make $50,000 a month but would also lose all membership and views, that doesn't work either. A 'possible reasonable income' might be to open up to banners of anything half credible and outdoors based (Parts Source for ATV parts, Evenrude for boat motors, Bass Pro Shops, etc) with a $15,000 a month income, but also a traffic and site rental equalling $5,000 a month (because of pushing the site harder for views and membership = more traffic = more costs), resulting in $10K a month income.

The site is then worth up to 36 times that income, or about $360,000.00 CAD.

I am not saying that is real, or that US concept of a site value is correct in this case, but I'd rather know the upper extreme.

YES…YES...YES! My visits here have been drastically reduced. As have my posts. And while I have tried to support this “little” site, it has become frustrating. Punctuation issues. Not a lot of firearms related threads. The exchange here is pretty useless (no one visits). Being logged/kicked off. And on and on. And don’t get me started about when I got banned because the site said I was a spam account.

I used to think of GOC as CGN-lite. With a more reasonable clientele. But the last year has shown me that here there is very little actually being posted about the hobby. I’ve tried to keep posting, believe me. But if you look at the dates of the last posts in most of the firearm related threads, you’ll see that there’s really not a lot being talked about. And those that do get the odd comment, die a quick death with very little besides likes being given. So what’s the point? Is this a firearms site, or not?


At least I still have my flag.

I did like it when my user title said "se?or member" instead of the gibberish it is now.
Whenever I read "senior member" my brain said it with a Spanish accent, and it would amuse me.
I miss that amusement.

If I write it on my phone I get a question mark, but my user title is a whole different stupidity.

I believe the plan is for each member to typeset their own texts using printing blocks. Battle Beaver is in the process of producing a potato block set for each member.

There is no future. Our hobby is dying, albeit, slowly.

This site has turned into an echo chamber for the few of us that remain. I get the occasional nugget of wealth here, but for the most part, it's rarely anything firearms related.

I'll say it - the site owner sold out. Everyone has their price. I'd probably have done the same thing.

To see both younger shooters as well as older veterans of the shooting sports turn up their noses at the greatest snipper rifle of all time illustrated your point very clearly to me.

The division is everywhere within our own ranks. In the early days of the 6.5 man-bun early adopters of the newest long-range beauty queen were appalled that some dirty hick would want to use it to shoot deer with. A large part of the death of the shooting sports in Canada particularly has been from government regulation. Next would be a lack of cohesion among the various shooting disciplines prior to May 2020 and lastly I'd would add the effects of suburban growth encroaching on existing shooting ranges. It is very likely that the existing "we" are the last Canadians to enjoy any type of shooting sports.

If that is truly the case, when will primer hoarding stop?

Basically
a) smart quotes (double and single)
b) hyphens
c) french characters

all get converted to "?"

The workaround is to do what I did in the linked thread. Replace smart quotes with simple quotes, replace hyphens with double dash, replace accented letters with their unaccented equivalents.

This happens most often when copy/pasting news articles.

The “hobby” is dying because the hobbyists among us have, for half a century, refused to acknowledge that organized shooting sports have never been the primary interest of more than a few of the Canadians who are interested in firearms.
