Gun Owners of Canada Challenge Coin Official Thread.

I don't think it is a good idea. I think it could be misconstrued as elitism. Might even inadvertently intimidate new members.

hmm - well fair point. Maybe it could be fairly subtle, those of us who know would know to look for it, newbs probably woudln't notice it

I like the additional line with coin number idea. I think the people who get these coins will not be the kind of throw their internet weight around kind of people, so anyone who takes it as an elitist thing is probably a "participation medal everyone gets an award" kind of person and should be ignored for the greater good.

Credit is due where credit is due BR. Gang...it was this ^^ guy who came up with it. I put it forward to the next pay grade up, and he said ask you guys if you wanted it. :)

I wasn't looking for credit Den, just ribbin ya a bit...cuz that's what we do... :)

to the other....

I highly doubt there would be any "elitism" to worry about.

coin # is inconsequential really. Anyone that notices the little coin could be directed to the ongoing thread. Would give other members something to shoot for if they so desire...

I was thinking that it would make it easier to know how many drinks in a round :)

some folks get just as bunched up about the post count generated ranks under our names.

We might need a subforum called Safe-Space

I have internet weight ? Damn....and I thought I was just fat in the real world. Hey...wait a minute....you just called me fat didn't you !?!?!?! I'm ooooooofended. You hurt my internet feelings without a trigger warning !!!! The NERVE !!!

I don't think there's a need for an additional symbol or note in a user's profile. When other organizations honor someone with a challenge coin, it's usually not accompanied by a medal, t-shirt or bumper sticker.

Zulu - stop throwing your internet weight at blacksmithden. You know he's emotionally vunerable in the evenings when the coffee's wearing off and it's still hours away till breakfast bacon.

Lol no! I can't help it. I'm a post counting google guru internet tough guy grrrrrrr

To be honest I have never heard of a challenge coin before so I'm not privy to their use other than what was posted in the thread.

I don't recall mention of a medal, t-shirt or bumper sticker. No gaudy, over the top "look at me" bs.

The original thought was strictly for a discreet little symbol of recognition.

At a glance we can all see that zulu served (and we thank you for your service)

I thought it would be nice to know at a glance who has/had contributed above and beyond to the firearms community...and most importantly, how many drinks in a round :)

...thinking about it now I see it as a positive way to entice members to earn one. As an ongoing thing it may motivate members/new members to give back to the firearms community where they may not have. A thread they may/may not see isn't much of catalyst for contributing. A symbol that makes them curious to know more (and if possible takes them to the thread if clicked) could go a long way to adding contributors on a grander scale. Who knows what motivates people to go above and beyond? Look at all the folks out playing pokyman...

what do you mean? the coin challenge thing?

BR: "Who knows what motivates people to go above and beyond? Look at all the folks out playing pokyman."

Which lead me to imagining a GOC Pokemon-inpsired game. Toss the challenge coins at other members to capture them?lol
just foolish talk
