If I were working as a software tester, I'd report that as a usability bug.

In E-Comm, that real estate is crazy valuable.

Having a big empty space like that makes for a loss of impressions and loss of revenue.

From a usability perspective, a new user navigating to a page (like GOC) or using any WebApp will form an impression in their first 5 seconds that will influence their long term engagement with the page/platform/app.

A dead space like that is one of the first things a new person will see in their first 5 seconds that will leave them with a subtle impression of frustration, since there's a few hundred millisecond delay between when they can access the information they want as they swipe down below the fold to access the juicy content in the forums.

Most desktop users can forgive that, but mobile users are MUCH more easily influenced by those kinds of UX bugs given time, bandwidth, and visible real-estate constraints on their mobile devices.

I'd guess that most GOC traffic is search traffic (evident by the high count of "guest" access the page has), and if so, it's a pretty big deal (in terms of lost traffic and impressions) having a small usability bug like that.

What happened to the rest of the GOC challenge coins?
Here I am on the verge of 4000 (mostly asinine) posts, and all mention of the coins has been removed from the site.

Centering the icon is a big improvement. Looking forward to the next improvement!
 
I think what’s happened is that the old giveaways section was removed for revamping at some point. I can still see it in my searches, but that section of the forum is currently invisible to general membership.
 
I still have no idea what you guys are talking about, I don't see any logo at all and haven't in awhile. Is the logo an ad of some sort that my adblock is blocking?

Just a thin grey bar and no logo.

I was going to paste this yesterday but I don't have either a PrtScr button on this keyboard or an image editor on my Pi.

Results vary, depending on the browser and possible plugins or add-ons one might have installed. I get different results when switching between Brave, Firefox and Edge. It also differs from Linux laptop to Android phone, as well as from cell service to home service. If you use an ad-blocker, a pi-hole, different DNS servers, etc. you might...uhh, experience things differently.

Maybe you can get the mods to sponsor you early? Was it just post count, or did a couple mods have to invite you?
 
I'll accept it for the time-being as a work in progress 'cause right now it's right up there with the Lee sisters....Ugh and Home.

While better than the lopsided off center deadspace header, the new centered cover the “welcome” header is just as stupid looking. I get messing around with it, but when it becomes obvious it looks damned goofy, and the membership doesnt like it, why not restore the perfectly serviceable one we have had for years?
 
I think it should stay as it is, but fill the space on the sides with pinup girls wielding flaming chainsaws, or something.

Pinup girls wielding flaming chainsaws sounds awesome. But the problem on a smaller screen (i.e. tablet) is that the logo covers up the "Welcome, Dewey Cox..." section.

That’s only a problem if you’re running two accounts DougM/Gunrunner…
 
For what it's worth, the image doesn't appear when browsing with Brave. Nor does the Tipping Point Research banner in the sponsors. But they do appear on Firefox and Chrome.

Good gawd....sitting there watching all the SFRC ads cycle through those same 2 boxes. Would that advertiser not be better served by a scrolling banner?
