New look

Welcome to the future.

I liked the old look better but the mobile version is certainly improved

Before, there was a handy button right at the first page called "New Posts". That showed the updates on any forum section.
The first thing you might try is "New Topics", but that won't include old ones with follow ups. I think the equivalent of "New Posts"
Are these two items highlighted in yellow.

The results won't look the same as before, but I think "Latest Activity" is our new posts button now.

Can someone on the tech or ownership side of the site explain to me what purpose the "tag_cloud" serves and why is it displayed to the casual surfer of this site without logging in?

Is this something that the site wants displayed to the non-gun loving community? It reinforces the very attributes the anti-gun crowd loves to use to describe the gun user community as a whole. Is it something that might have future advertisers or supporters re-think their association with GOC? It'll certainly attract the bat-shit crazy crowd and don't forget, one of them recently got elected.

I'm at a loss to understand how that list of words is relevant to anyone but a tech and why it's on full display to our detractors.

Overall: of course there will be a learning curve with a change but the Error 403 messages, the return of the difficult pic post process and the clunky functionality make this hard to digest as the evolution of V-bulletin. Currently I'm giving it 3 hits on paper out of 10. I'll wait to see how Telos tweaks it once more users submit feedback before heading out to greener pastures.

I do not like the, scroll from top to first unseen post on a page After rendering the full page, I preferred the previous system that did the virtual scroll to the first unseen post on a page and Then did the rendering. So the page did not immediate start scrolling as soon as you clicked on a link. The current mechanisms is clunky and amateurish something I might expect from a new open source development, not what would expect from a commercial software offering. Anytime you grab my cursor and take it for a ride you a removing control from the user, which is not normal accepted practice. Works like the Canadian Tire site that changes the page and moves your cursor as you are typing in the search box, it is my cursor not yours. If there is a setting that would change the rendering strategy it should be altered to display After position sensitive rendering is complete.

It appears the 403 message while pasting occurs when pasting in a newline or carriage return and when pasting in double quotes. This is likely poorly written input filtering to prevent an SQL injection attack. Amateur hour for coders that don't know how to use Bind variables in their SQL statement coding. Sort of what I would expect from a product that uses PHP and MySQL.

I'm sure Brent is doing his best to get things rolling properly again, Maybe we all need to give him and this site a week or two to get squared away before talking about abandoning ship!

BTW, I'm not getting anymore Error 403 messages besides the few I got when I first started using this new layout.

It all seems pretty stable to me and the learning curve was not that great to now using it right.

I can post pictures, video's and reply to others just fine.

I do have a Cat helping me out although!

With all due respect and please don't take this the wrong way. But this seems pretty bland and vanilla compared to the old site. A splash of color here would really help. Wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more.;)

Ok, downloaded various photo resizing apps, most just crop, ended with Photo Shop Express downsized to 1024x1024 pixels and still get the red FU error exclamation mark, does it on the upload attachments or the photo icon in the top bar. Is there some secret handshake and knock to be able to post an image now? Even the smilies are all blue squares with question marks, can’t even post an angry face. Just about at the end of my tether with the changes and lack of info on how to adapt……

Would be nice to hear what's going on, other than "oh, this company sucks, and that's why we can't do anything..."

What's with the page layout? I get a 1/3 of the screen for the forum with a blank 1/3 of the screen on either side. Just giant, stoopid, grey bars. Almost like I'm looking at a layout designed for a phone on my desktop.

Not being able to use a carriage return is retarded

"Carriage return" was a lever on typewriters, that moved the carriage that held the platen with it's typing paper, back to the right so you could start a new line of typing on the left side of the page. Or something like that. I've used typewriters as a kid, but I never took typing in school.

Blacksmithden wrote "Can only post a few words without getting an error". And you should be thankful! (note the lack of quote and carriage return in this post)
