Gun Owners of Canada is no longer affiliated with any current Canadian firearms lobby group.

Gun Owners of Canada is a non partisan Forum and company.

We actively encourage the promotion of the firearms community, though have decided not to align ourselves with any organization at this time.

Thank you.

Interesting. Can the administration share what lead to this decision?

I assume this means that all NFA-specific threads are now blown to smithereens. I must say, it's a shame. There was some valuable conversation that could help everyone understand how these organizations have been operating.

X2, I hate to see this fall apart.

I for one support this decision and congratulate GOC for having taken the decision.

Gun Owners of Canada was designed as a professional forum for all people of all walks of life to enjoy firearms. We believe that the politics of a lobby group may interfer with the enjoyment of the forum and the sport.

We are not saying if a member posts about an org it will be removed we are saying that no lobbyist groups will be an active part of the forum.

We will still have room for our media groups, local hunting and fishing groups, university groups and dealers on the forum. As they bring enjoyment to all.

Lobbyist groups have their place in the community but it will not be an active part of Gun Owners of Canada.

So, the NFA and CSSA were not conducting themselves up to GOC's standards?

Just wondering, please don't get defensive.

There are two groups. It's no big secret that they don't like each other much. People from one tend to have conflicts with people from the other, and sometimes it turns into drama supreme. Drama, we don't need. Here, we just want to enjoy guns, shooting, whatever, without taking political sides. The simple solution...get the teams to play the game someplace else. As jwire said...if somebody wants to strike up a civil discussion about one group or the other, go for it. Just keep it respectful, leave out the drama, and it's all good. Easy peasy. :)

My support for this change is partly personal and partly from the perspective of a firearms enthusiast that wants to see productive change in Canada. I didn't agree with many of the public positions that the NFA took and expressed in this forum. The publication of the NFA so called "Recipe for Success" was a tipping point for me and I was getting increasingly uncomfortable with the appearance that the GOC and NFA were partnering and therefore supporting the same general stance and attitudes. As I couldn't support or respect the direction of the NFA, I corresponded directly with its leadership and withdrew my membership.

One of the reasons I came to GOC was its overall demeanor as established early on by the organization's founders, directors and moderators. Despite holding views that are frequently different from other active members, I feel comfortable here. I'm perfectly OK with vigorous discussion as long as it's respectful and productive. Neutrality on the part of the GOC organization in a good thing in my opinion. My experience after more than a year of daily participation in this forum confirms that the individual members are more than capable of standing on two feet without blowing one off on a regular basis.:tounge:
