Why are we not allowed to embed HTML in certain forums, such as Off Topics, Prepping, and a few others? Given how tweets and social media posts make up an ever growing part of the news and discussions, it's a real PIA not being able to include them.

The lack of HTML doesn't bother me.
I rebuild the links, and clean up the text, anyway -- to make it quickly legible.

It's also debatably safer if it's just text and links and images -- both for users, and to keep threads from disappearing (we've had threads that wouldn't display, because of a bad post with bad html).

Question for YOU RangeBob:

What kind of weird voodoo do you employ to display youtube video links as actual links, rather than as videos? Sometimes I just want to put a link to a video, without the actual video appearing, and everything I've tried still results in the forum showing the video, even when I put the link in URL tags.

Amateur tip: if you enable your mouse's right-click function, both 'copy' and 'paste' become even easier.

It seems to be the only format that GoC doesn't automatically turn into a video.

I don't know if it is an html thing or not but it is frustrating that sometimes tweets will imbed and others not.

That's precisely what I'm talking about. On some forums HTML in "on", while for others it is "off". And it seems kind of random which are on and which are off. I thought it was just Off Topics, but I've found others as well.

Scroll down to the very bottom of each page and you will see:

Interesting. I never knew about that "shortcut" url. When I try to grab links I only get the "youtu.be" shortcut link. Do you enter that shortcut manually, or is there some way to generate that type of link directly from the video (when you click "copy video URL" for example)?

Amateur tip: if you enable your mouse's right-click function, both 'copy' and 'paste' become even easier.

That's cute. But we're talking Pro, here.

Anyone have any idea why videos sometimes don’t show up when I look at some posts?

Lately, that applies to some of my old posts.

Posts that have videos I could see when I posted them.

Do you enter that shortcut manually

The website I enter manually. The YoutubeCode I cut/paste, which is sort of manually.

the most common thing I do is

a) copy/paste the title from the youtube
b) type the date, and the minutes
c) copy the youtube URL from youtube
d) push the GoC VIDEO post toolbar button, and paste it into that, and push OK, which gives
[ VIDEO ]https: // www. youtube .com / watch?v=abl_lBskzQ4 [ / VIDEO]
(obviously there wouldn't be spaces)
e) I double click on the YouTube code, and copy that to the clipboard, i.e. the "abl_lBskzQ4" part is the YouTube code
f) I type
http://y2u.be/
and then paste the YouTube code onto the end giving
http://y2u.be/abl_lBskzQ4

and the result is that it looks like this

which corresponds to what some GoC user beginning with "R" said he could read both of all the time.

Ok, I got it now.

Back to HTML:

"What do we want?"

"The equal application of HTML across all subforms on this site."

"When do we want it?"

"Sooner or later would be just dandy!"

Curious. Which subs have HTML on? I see it off everywhere I look.

Alternatively, if one clicks on the Go Advanced button below the new post`reply window, you can disable the Automatically parse links in text option.

I've done that too.
When someone else quotes me when I've done that, they end up with videos that were just links.

. .

I can't see the content of post #3678.
But, being able to understand html, I was able to locate the content.
