Hey is anyone else having problems accessing the forum with the Tapatalk app? Both my phone and tablet seem to not be able to access it and I receive a "network error try again later message".

Installed it a couple years ago, and it worked, but really wasn't impressed with the way it nagged/interfaced/took up bandwidth for itself? Can't remember now off the top of my head. Maybe all three. Guess it was a forgettable experience. All I know is, the default browser works just fine, and works the same for all sites that I visit. So what is the attraction with Tapatalk? Anyone care to enlighten me?

When I used it I liked it.
Posting pictures right off your phone was the biggest bonus, but now GOC lets you do that anyway.
But I found it sucked up my mobile data at an alarming rate. More than double, I felt.
And they felt a need to keep changing it constantly, and usually the new system wouldn't work worth a crap.

Tapatalk is largely junk, in my experience. When it works it's nice, but it so often doesn't. I still use it, but I keep my expectations low, and I'll never fork over a dollar for it.

Yeah it was down with GOC for me most of yesterday. Haven't tried it today. If GOC would get a mobile friendly forum theme (hint hint) that one could choose from then I could ditch Tapatalk.

Taptalk isn't a forum app, its a 3rd party software enabled for use.

Sorry but we have no control over how it works or the versions and updates it has

Thanks for the reply jwire. Always good to here it from the source and i will continue to blame tapatalk.

It's actually been down for a few days now for me. When I try to log in I just get a "login failed" message. I know GOC does not have any control over a third party app however, I was just asking to see if there was a recent change on GOC. I know some forums I belong to either block Tapatalk or have not allowed members to connect to their service.

@LB303 - the "attraction" to Tapatalk as apposed to using the browser is when you monitor several forums all at the same time. I can go to their app and see everything I am subscribed to or every "unread" post for all 14 forums I am active in. Having to log into each forum's browser separately can be a real PITA.

Thanks for that explanation Grizz. I had no idea.

THIS! SO MUCH THIS!!!!!

Actually, you do. You can disable it and go with a mobile browser version for vBulletin. Others do it, you can to. Tapatalk is trash.

Sorry for moving the thread around and closing other ones guys, just some people didn't have access to the off topics section so I figured I'd move this to the trouble shooting forum since everyone can access it from here.

I like Tapatalk. I don't like that GOC doesn't work on it anymore. My other forums do.

I hate using my mobile browser to surf GOC. It's a horrible experience.

I spoke with tech support at Tapatalk who spent some time troubleshooting it for me. In the end, it turns out there is an out of date plugin here on GOC. Apparently all that needs to be done to make the world right again is for admin to update it.....can this PLEASE be done?

I also sent a message to jwire in hopes the plugin can be updated quickly

I really can't understand why anyone would use TapaTalk. All of your posts get passed through their server. And most likely get copied and profiled. All for what...? A supposed "improved" way of using forums on mobile devices.

Well...not me baby. I value my privacy...what's left of it anyways.

It will be done at some point.

But as it stands it's considered a low priority.

I appogize for the wait.

Don't rush on my account. I'm fine using Firefox.

I don't use taptalk much. I tried it once and didn't really like it.

I only have it cause it is easier to post pictures.

On the other hand, rush on my account lol. I use Tapatalk heavily. Though as was said before, if GOC installs a user selectable mobile theme (or simply upgrades to a responsive theme) that'd be a better solution. Something to consider for down the road.

I checked taptalk.

it flooded me with a ton of old notices and GOC is gone.

Ugh, this is really annoying. Now I can't even unfollow GOC in Tapatalk to stop the updates from coming in. Updates are useless if I can't read them.

I got lucky and had removed it from my tablet before tapatalk removed it (seeing if removing and adding again would work), but yeah my phone still lets me know everything.

Any update on this? I'm fed up with receiving updates that I can't access.

:mad1:

GOC in a web browser on a phone is just too small and cumbersome for me (my phone is a 5" model). On my tablet it is readable, but still cumbersome. Of course if GOC would install a mobile theme that would solve the problem. And if the theme is expensive I'm sure some of us would help to crowd fund it.

I'll check into it.

I know upgrading to V5 would do it, but V5 is a PITA and costs us monthly were as V4 is bought and paid for

Yeah I get that. "Software as a service" with a monthly fee (or yearly) is a ripoff. But in many cases it has proven a successful business model for the developers. Personally I loathe it. Can't count the number of consumer software products I've passed on because they use that pricing model.

It's the way of the future, unfortunately. Look at M$ 365 and Adobe Saa$. Managing disconnected networks is pain in the ass thanks to these cloud services.

It's the way of the future...

Only where there is little competition, especially for consumer software and independent professionals. M$ 365 has LibreOffice as competition and many use that (while still many pay M$). Adobe's creative suite doesn't have much competition for drawing and images/photos in the professional space. Amateurs have other choices. And DreamWeaver is no longer the go to web editor as its biggest feature was its WYSIWYG which just doesn't work with modern websites anymore. So a plethora of open source and commercial editors have sprung up.

But as for the future I think you are correct in that software publishers are going to try to shoehorn customers (both corporate and consumer) in that direction for as long as they can get away with it. It's working well too. DND used to provide my group with CS for web development (essentially DW, PS and Acrobat Pro) which was cheaper than the whole suite. Now, thanks to SaaS, we get the entire CS suite. That's got to cost the dept a fortune. I have all that installed (I can't not have it installed) on my workstation and use just Photoshop on occasion. The bulk of my work I do in a free text editor (installed officially lol) that is lightning fast compared to DW over shared drives. I'm getting way off topic lol...

I'm sure there's a genius on this forum who can design an app specifically for this forum.

not worth the time and effort.

Easier to just pay the extortion fee for some free open source based solution.
