Are you sure you wrote it down right? And the Ref # is just a file number for them for that transfer. So they can look up that transfer.

When I purchased the rifle they gave me a number on the receipt and when I called the RCMP call centre they said my reference # was something else. 517-something ->518-something

Well call up the business and get it sorted out. Just to be sure they accidentally didn't give you the wrong gun.
