Complaints about the forum being slow

I think it’s a provider issue. I had the same slowness this morning. Chrome on an iphone 6s. Wifi 50mbps. 5-10 seconds for any goc page. Cgn worked fine. I switched to cellular, and bam - full speed on goc

Well, my download speed is 126mbs; don't know if that's good or not. But, I do know that GOC is the only site where I have to wait 5, 10 or 20 seconds for a page to load or refresh. And now, the "what's new" page shows up old school with everything crammed together and almost unreadable.

Oh, and the speed issues occur regardless of where I am and what device I'm using.

This is what I am experiencing as well. All other sites is click and there you are. Here I click and wait 10+ seconds to get to the forum I want. Click and wait another 10 seconds+ to get to the next page. Firefox is what I am on and the lagging happens here 24/7 and has done so since about the time the servers were changed/swapped/upgraded. My ebay is fine, other forums are fine, emails are fine, etc. Video streaming is very good as well.

After the big change up on the server I was getting slow response times. I cleared my browser cache and my cookies and everything was back to normal. I would also suggest flushing the DNS cache and see if that helps.

Excuse the ignorance but where/how do you do that?

I doubt that DNS has anything to do with this, but ...

In Windows, run Command Prompt as an administrator, and then

ipconfig /flushdns

In everything {Windows, Mac, whatever},

reboot

will virtually certainly also flush the DNS.

My issues started at exactly this time as well.

Everything's much better today.

I typed in a long list of what was slow with timings for each kind of click into a post in Chuckbuster's recent thread 'site speed again', but you closed the thread and my post wouldn't post and I couldn't get the details back. I might have private messaged you then, but you said "please do not reopen it again" which lead me to wonder if there was a Denial Of Service or something going on you didn't want to talk about.

Good

1) https://gunownersofcanada.ca/
For weeks, this took 30 seconds to appear.
Today, it's instantanious.

2) "Unread private messages" / "Inbox", 17 seconds
But the mess that appeared the past few days seems to have been fixed. The menu is back.

3) when opening a thread via "Go to first new post" it has been taking 30 seconds,
but today it's under 4 seconds which is fine.

4) quoting messages works fast again (I quit quoting weeks ago, and started entering [ quote ] manually.). The Quick Reply box for the past couple of weeks took 15 seconds to appear even after the rest of the thread appeared, now it's there instantly. Several have commented that the Like button failed a lot.

ok
5) Http images have disappered. [ img ] only works with https images now.

bad

6) Attach image via file upload, doesn't work. No Browse button.

7) "Advanced Search" and "Single Search Content Type" tab within search, take 20 seconds each to appear, even when pushing the browser's BACK button.
A month ago "Single Search Content Type" was often so quick that sometimes I would wait for it to change and it would take me a few seconds to realize it must have changed in a tenth of a second and I missed the change happening it was so fast.

8) "What's new at GOC", Tab changes instantly, but body of page shows this

In Firefox, going to "about:cache" to get the cache file directory, and then going to File Explorer and deleting the contents of that directory ("Disk" "Storage disk location", i.e. the most thorough way to clear the cache), had no effect on resolving that.

I'm running Microsoft Edge most of the time, sometimes Firefox.
Firefox had reported the slowness was waiting for GunOwnersOfCanada.ca to respond, not some 3rd party image or website. CPU usage was negligible, so it wasn't a runaway script.
Ping gunownersofcanada.ca has always been under 10ms.
Traceroute was 10ms or less per hop.
Speedtest 45Mbps down, 11Mbps up.
ISP Cogeco.

Okay, an update on my particular issue: https://www.gunownersofcanada.ca/showthread.php?52115-Complaints-about-the-forum-being-slow&p=651137&viewfull=1#post651137

RangeBob was correct "flushing the DNS cache" had no effect on either Chrome or Opera.

Drache's suggestion to "cleared my browser cache and my cookies" also had no effect.

However, "Run 'N' Gun" and "Smc's" suggestion that it "Maybe it's linked to ISP providers?" may very well be correct because I have the problem at the office (Cogeco, cable) but not at home (Bell, fibe), both Chrome or Opera work fast and correctly at home.

It appears by boss is interfering with my leisure time :)

Speed is relative. It seems like only yesterday i was bumbling along in cyberspace with a blazing fast 36k modem...

I have no issues these days. Running shaw 150mbps at home and Chrome.

For the record, there are some compatibility issues between certain versions of chrome and skype that can cause a several hogging of resources and things to appear slow. Keep your softwares up to date.

Complete hit and miss here. And it seems regardless of the network I use. Must be something on your end. You dump your cache lately?

Funny. I haven't had slowness issues except solely with clicking Like. That used to be a split second thing now it is slow to the point of the entire page refresh after clicking Like being noticabable.

Another issue, is that it is hit and miss whether or not the toolbar is there or not when I click reply or start a new thread.

But speed? Never been a problem.

EDIT: my guess is the issues people have been having is related to GOC now being hosted on the LiteSpeed web server platform. I don't think it has enough history and market share to have its problems (as any software has) worked out. Personally I'd stick with Apache or nginx. I'd never heard of Lightspeed until I checked to see what GOC was running today, and I'm a full stack web developer by trade.

Just to be contrary, everything is working fine for me today using Chrome and Opera at work and at home... Must be Trump's fault!

It likely is Trumps fault!

But my wait of 10 seconds to load a new page is still frustrating me.

Cache dumping did nothing to fix the problem.

Did nothing for me also but my issues went away when I used a different provider, if you can do that by testing it at another location, home, office, friend's place, etc. it may shed some light on whether it is provider related. Just make sure it is another provider and not the same one at another location.

The main page loads fast and displays correctly:

If slect the "What's New at GOC" tab, the page takes 5 to 10 seconds to load and displays incorrectly:

Wile the displays is wrong, the search only takes 0.03 seconds, if I click the last message icon (>>) for any of the threads on this page, the resultant page is correctly formated but take 5 to 10 seconds to load.

My home page looks like that also. Now, it seems that the lagging occurs only when I go back to the home page. From there, and within threads, things appear to be normal.

Doing Several Load tests, it seems that the results are the browsers, users are using for the most part are the issue with load time.
See results below:

These are test sites that use multiple access points from around the world, to record the high, low and average access time, I'm posting the Highest of North America.

Test site 1: Load time - 2.142s Chrome - No errors

Test site 1: Load time - 5.805s - Firefix - Several Errors

Test site 1: Load time - 2.960s - Opera - No Errors

Test site 2: Load Time - 2.1 sec (Chrome) No errors

Test site 2: Load Time - 5.8 sec (IE browners) Several errors

Test site 2: Load Time - 5.4 sec (Firefox) Several errors
Test site 2: Load Time - 1.7 sec (Opera) No errors
Test site 2: Load Time - 2.1 sec (Android operating browser) No errors

Results are saying that if your using Firefox or EI, there are errors that are stopping from loading the site quickly.
These are not errors with the site, but compatibility of the browsers to the site.

You have have had good access before, as browsers change settings in their software this can affect some of the sites you use.

GOC has always recommended using Chrome for using our site. Users are welcome to use whatever they want though.

you're on it! i'm using chrome and never got any slow down of any kind. pages load very fast, refresh is error free.

Same here with slowness for the past week+.

Doesn't matter what browser I try, IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera tried all of them, same results.

Cleared cache/cookies/etc, no help.

My speed (I have Gb internet)

Seeing this also when I click "What's new..."

And finally, trace route:

This site is the only site I visit that is slow/corrupted.

I usually use Microsoft Edge or Firefox.
I just tried Chrome, and it made no difference at all. Same speeds, at the same spots, and the same incorrectly displayed "What's new at GOC" page.
