Fix the damned punctuation

Like the Firearms Act?

Exactly like the Firearms Act.

The Conservatives had an opportunity to change the Act like they'd promised, and had they done so, could have counted on gun owners votes in perpetuity. Now? Gun owners know they are another political football, and are to be treated as such.

Not much different from the Lieberals or Dippers then, those other two have promised to fix or bring about changes in many aspects of our life yet seldom deliver but they still get to collect plenty of votes each election cycle.

People/sheeple/voters, whatever you want to call them are on the whole low information, gullible simpletons who are easy to manipulate and lead.

I think you need to try and let go and get over your hurt from feeling that the conservatives tricked or cheated you and realize all the politicians of all stripes do the exact same thing and instead try to pick the one who does the least amount of damage to the country and who screws you over the least.

Dwelling on something that happened before that hurt your feeling only really hurts you more than you them by saying your not happy how they treated you before.

Did you hate your dad or mom when they tricked or lied to you when you where young? no you didn't, because you grew up and realized that sometimes thing go differently then you wanted but you still survived.

Constantly harping on about the firearms Act and the conservatives does not make you right and them wrong, all it does is make you look small minded and petty.

I will never forgive, nor forget, how the globalist CPC lied their faces off to gun owners.

How that makes me look in your eyes isn't of the slightest interest to me.

The glitch with question marks auto replacing apostrophes remains though, what a royal pain in the ass.

Adding insult to injury,
frequently I post a news article, having forgotten to fix the punctuation, but don't get a "are you human?";
and then I fix the punctuation to make it readable, and then I get a "are you human?".

There is an advantage to this forum supporting an older character set (like ISO-8859-1 or Windows-1252 - I'm not sure which GOC supports and I'm not going to spend 5 minutes viewing the source to find out) versus modern character sets like UTF-8.

Namely that there is added effort involved in building web-scrapes to automate extraction of data.

It's not hard to implement, but given the volume of data on this site, the effort involved in sanitizing the data through string conversions is enormous, especially when there are other comparable sites with a higher user base, more active traffic, better supported character sets, that are more visible in the public through SEO.

Translation: It's harder (but not impossible) and less rewarding for someone such as hackers or government agencies to extract meaningful information from this forum in an automated fashion.

Hackers/Spies are kind of like those guys who go around bars, parties, raves, etc. looking for intoxicated women to take home for the night (or to the back alley for 10 minutes).

GOC is kind of like a poorly lit hole in the wall pub like Moe's Tavern in the Simpson with no attractive women and a bunch of old, disgusting barfly drunks.

Technically, a hacker/malicious government agent could come in here to spy on us, but it would be pretty boring, uninteresting, and unlikely to come up with anything worth while.

As you all know, there are other gun sites that are more like a Burning Man festival full of women on ecstasy desperate for a 5 minute fling.

Probably the best description of GOC I've read.
Feels like a personal attack, but it's true, so no infraction ;D

Wait a minute, I've spent all this time grooming Camo and there has been this other place the whole time? Damn harble, why didn't you tell me?

Sorry to hear that GOC doesn't live up to the excitement level you expect (beyond BB's potato debauchery) but the GOC'ers I know (that I have met in person or have corresponded with outside of the forum, hell I've even worked with at least one of you) have all been interesting, knowledgeable and outgoing individuals. Most if not all are also very proficient and successful in their occupations away from GOC, another sign of a well-balanced lifestyle.

Speaking for myself only, I have plenty of contacts should I need actual technical advice so my main reason to take up bandwidth on GOC is to commiserate with like-minded individuals trying to navigate the obstructions a worried/scared/vindicative government keeps throwing in our path. Other reasons include following the projects others have undertaken, be they old rifles brought back to life (FALover), old vehicles (normmus), bad ideas combined with questionable shortcuts (BSD), fighting off the evils of capitalism (aniest), that pinked guy (f*ck him), competitive shooting (Dewey, R&R), the charmed life (2012Cvoguy), soulchaser's dank political underbelly updates and many others that chime in with an update on something that interests them or affects us as a group. IMO we need more motorcycle content and more fishing content (especially ice fishing) and I'm just as guilty of not doing exactly that.

I see this as a relaxed atmosphere, less competitive and more like you're sitting around ribbing your buddies over something. Never have I thought of my GOC compadres as "old, disgusting barfly drunks" nor expected a Burning Man experience, complete with ecstasy and quickies. I suppose if that's your kink these days M1917 might be kind enough to arrange a hook-up for you with Stinky. I doubt there would be any ecstasy for either of you, it probably wouldn't last 5 minutes but guaranteed afterwards you'd be burning, man.

Oh yeah, VERY hard to find out the character set GOC is using.... oh, wait, no it's not, 3rd line of the code, took 1 second.

It would take 5 minutes because I can never spend 1 second looking for a single line of code, but 4:59 looking for bugs.

Remember, I'm not a Programmer. I'm a Test Engineer.

That sounds like government work mentality. I'll have my friend Elon visit your employer...

Hah! I'm training a bot to build a data scraper and tested that prompt on it.

This was it's response:

Your analogy is vivid but risks overshadowing your main point. If you’re aiming for clarity, you might tone down the colorful comparisons. They could distract readers or even alienate them. The core argument—that a smaller forum with older encoding is less attractive to data scrapers—stands well on its own. If you want humor, keep it subtle so it doesn’t dilute the message.
