Everything's much better today.
I typed in a long list of what was slow with timings for each kind of click into a post in
Chuckbuster's recent thread 'site speed again', but you closed the thread and my post wouldn't post and I couldn't get the details back. I might have private messaged you then, but you said "please do not reopen it again" which lead me to wonder if there was a Denial Of Service or something going on you didn't want to talk about.
Good
1)
https://gunownersofcanada.ca/
For weeks, this took 30 seconds to appear.
Today, it's instantanious.
2) "Unread private messages" / "Inbox", 17 seconds
But the mess that appeared the past few days seems to have been fixed. The menu is back.
3) when opening a thread via "Go to first new post" it has been taking 30 seconds,
but today it's under 4 seconds which is fine.
4) quoting messages works fast again (I quit quoting weeks ago, and started entering [ quote ] manually.). The Quick Reply box for the past couple of weeks took 15 seconds to appear even after the rest of the thread appeared, now it's there instantly. Several have commented that the Like button failed a lot.
ok
5) Http images have disappered. [ img ] only works with https images now.
bad
6) Attach image via file upload, doesn't work. No Browse button.
7) "Advanced Search" and "Single Search Content Type" tab within search, take 20 seconds each to appear, even when pushing the browser's BACK button.
A month ago "Single Search Content Type" was often so quick that sometimes I would wait for it to change and it would take me a few seconds to realize it must have changed in a tenth of a second and I missed the change happening it was so fast.
8) "What's new at GOC", Tab changes instantly, but body of page shows this
In Firefox, going to "about:cache" to get the cache file directory, and then going to File Explorer and deleting the contents of that directory ("Disk" "Storage disk location", i.e. the most thorough way to clear the cache), had no effect on resolving that.
I'm running Microsoft Edge most of the time, sometimes Firefox.
Firefox had reported the slowness was waiting for GunOwnersOfCanada.ca to respond, not some 3rd party image or website. CPU usage was negligible, so it wasn't a runaway script.
Ping gunownersofcanada.ca has always been under 10ms.
Traceroute was 10ms or less per hop.
Speedtest 45Mbps down, 11Mbps up.
