Complaints about the forum being slow

Things are no better here in Stratford either; Chrome loads faster (about 45 seconds to one minute per page), but I can not post; Explorer is in excess of one minute to load a page, 1-2 minutes for a post to post. I am only coming back to GOC about once per week presently, hoping that it get's better. Because of the time factor, this will be my only post today. All other websites, gun or otherwise, are working fine. This is only GOC.

It's still slow as all get out for me. I have tried on both Chrome and FireFox. I have cleared all my caches and cookies, rebooted, and everything else I can think of. It's so slow that I can play solitare between clicks of the mouse to go from page to page, or forum to forum. It's very maddening because this is my favourite gun forum and I used to be on here every night. It's so agonizingly slow right now that it's making me not come on because it takes about 2 hours to go through the forums...
Yes, and I don't have two hours.

Still having no issues. Shaw at home. Bell for cellular. Telus for work cellular. God knows what internet at camp. Explornet at the farm.

I’ve tried multiple devices, multiple services and I can never replicate the issues.

Is there a chance that this has something to do with user profiles? Has anyone tried signing out to see if the site runs faster for them?

I just tried it and it's still slow.

There's no need to log out. Just open an incognito tab and try it.

This has to be an ISP issue or something common to ISPs.
Most of the complaints are from Ontario.

When I switch to my cellular hotspot, the site speeds up and I have full editing functions.

Cellular IP geolocates to Toronto.
DSL locates to Windsor.

I agree Shoe, it seems to be ISP and/or location based.

I’m in NS on Bell’s FibreOp. Used to have the issue where clicking like slowly refreshed the whole page. That has been gone for a while now. Only other issue is some photos just show as a generic icon placeholder. But that is exclusive to Tapatalk. If I view the same post in any web browser it works just fine.

But as for speed issues I’ve had none.

Nothing has changed. Still slow.
Disabling some scripts has returned the functionality of some buttons.

On wifi in Arizona, the site is unloadably slow.
Using data it works quickly.
Other lesser Canadian gun sites and outdoor forums are working fine both ways.

I just tried the site using a web based VPN and set the location to Netherlands.Site speed was normal! Unfortunately I wasn't able to test if the editor functions worked properly as I did not want to log in via some random VPN site I Googled. So the location based idea may have some merit.

It's slow all over for me. Android, Tapatalk, Windows 10, Edge, Chrome, Bell, Telus, Rogers and Allstream.

Would a tracert provide any information from the people with issues? I would think that would show where the communication is bottlenecked.
Of course, my knowledge of troubleshooting peaked when I was a kid in the 90s so what do I know.

This is what I got from a traceroute app using my DSL (Teksavvy)
Ping: 80.1 ms
TTL: 255
United States (Scottsdale)

Using my hotspot (Telus mobility)
Ping: 30.5 ms
TTL: 255
United States (Scottsdale)

The editor is still wonky and missing the editing toolbar when I'm on my hard line.
Everything is reappears when using the hotspot/cellular.

I experienced a few slow weeks, then a regular week, now I am back to taking 15 seconds to load a page.

Very frustrating.

I'm thinking more and more this is some kind of location based issue.

I'm using the same device I usually do on my home DSL network (Teksavvy) but this time, with a VPN.

VPN location set to, "United States". Speed is now very fast. Full editing functions are available.

Maybe the way that people in the eastern part of the country are being routed to the server?

EDIT:

I've dropped the VPN and found that the effect was still holding. Good loading speed and full editor available.

I rebooted my device to see if that would bring the issue back. The site sometimes loaded slow but for the most part, everything runs smooth for me now.

I looked at the stats at the bottom of the main forum page.

What's Going On?

Currently Active Users

There are currently 200 users online. 17 members and 183 guests

Maybe less load on the server with the amount of users online??

Edit 2.

Back to being slow and editor not working. Back on the VPN / USA and all is well.

So it looks like using a VPN is a temporary work around.

very bad

very bad

The site is now unsuitable for any purpose.
- Extremely slow.
- It's frequently logging me off -- which due to the delays I'm wondering if it's getting the cookie.
- Formatting has gone off the rails bad.
- Hmm, although there are no buttons at the top (e.g. Whats New At GOC), and no control buttons (e.g. "Submit Reply"), the functionallity is still there. I just have to look for it.
- The What's New At GOC looks weird, but in some ways it is formatting better than it has in a month.

Holy Crap Batman! Everything now appears normal. The morning was a bit of a gong show...site was very badly formatted, passwords were unencrypted and the site was unusable. Tried several times during the day, but it was always the same story. Just logged in and most issues seem resolved.
